Next to nothing Cat socks

It’s that time of year when the cold weather really bites.  We thought we’d put together some ways our traders can offer you warmth during these exceptionally chilly times. Even just writing this has made us feel warmer!

Gloves from Nothing Boutique

1. Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes

Our market is packed with colourful, stylish and practical ways to help you wrap up warm. Nothing Boutique, Next to Nothing, and Leonard Jay are the place to go for jumpers. They’re also the go to place for gorgeously warm hats, gloves and scarves – not forgetting The Hat Box too. Pingui also offer a line of scarves. Give your feet some loving too with Soctopus, Next to Nothing, Nothing, A Woollen Cosy Life and Leonard Jay for socks to fall head over heels in love with.  For super warm sheepskin slippers, A Woollen Cosy Life is a must visit.

2. Hang out with us

We’ve lots of great cafes and takeaways offering comforting mugs of tea or specialist coffee and hot chocolate. Click on the Looking for Coffee tab for all the different options to try out. Or pop in for a warming lunch at any of our cafes – click on our Looking for Lunch tab – there’s everything from spicy Thai, wood-fired pizza, Lebanese, hot sandwiches, pies, homemade hearty Greek dishes to a good ol’ traditional fry up.

Take your mind off the cold in a different way by checking out The Woolhounds’ crochet and knitting classes. Their shop is always lovely and toasty too.

Or cosy up with a book and a cuppa at Gulp Fiction bookshop. They have a second floor if you didn’t know already, and you can buy a hot drink to hug while you read and forget about the chill outside.

3. Slow cooker that stew

There’s nothing like a hot steaming stew to keep you warm. Slow cookers have been found to be the most economical way of cooking food. So how about grabbing some super-fresh local veggies from Bonners. If you are a meat eater, add some fantastic cuts of meat from our two butchers David John Butchers and M Feller & Daughter as well as a huge selection of chutneys, and craft some delicious stews to see you through. Add in some delicious bread, and cheese from Oxford Cheese Company too.

4. Cosy up your home

One of our newest shops in the market, A Woollen Cosy Life, have got this all tied up with their high-quality traditionally made woollen blankets, sheepskin rugs and slippers. They’re not called cosy for nothing!  Or treat yourself to a warmly scented candle from The Oxford Soap Company, or Y.O.U. There’s nothing quite like candlelight to help make your home feel extra snug.

5. Keep moving

We’re almost back to the start. Moving around and keeping that blood flowing is so important. It sounds crazy but if you are cold working from home, go out for a walk or run when you come back in the house will feel so warm.

If you are sporty or not, Blueblood Sports will give you all the right inspiration to keep moving. From specialist equipment to their fun corner full of active games you can play inside and out. Just pop in and ask them for ideas. They’re so helpful.

So there we have it, hopefully you are feeling warmer already!
