To celebrate our big 2-5-0 we’re not just going to cut a cake, we’ve decided to dedicate the whole of 2024 to our 250th Anniversary. We’re packing in events throughout the year.
When you visit on any day you’ll see the market is now bursting with 250th Anniversary bunting sporting our special 250th Anniversary edition Covered Market logo, we’ve brand new Anniversary banners over all our entrances, and don’t forget to seek out those special limited edition 250th tote bags!
IT’S THE BIG ONE!

7:30pm – 10pm
It simply wouldn’t right if this special year went by without a big party for everyone to come together and raise a glass to all the amazing people throughout it’s 250 year history that have made the market the much loved historical landmark it is today.
There will be music, dance, a photo booth, promos from traders, arts and an interactive vintage trail. Plus if you like to dress vintage we’ve a best dressed competition for those keen to get involved. The theme is dress as your favourite fashion era from the market’s 250 year long history.

MORE ABOUT OUR ANNIVERSARY YEAR
We’ve already seen a special 250th Easter Egg Hunt, hosted an extra special 250 May Mornings where music and dance filled the market while May Morning revellers came in to refuel and hosted a family-friendly Market Street Party as we make new history and celebrate the trial transformation of Market Street’s brand new makeover.
Now as you’ve seen the next big event is that 250th Anniversary party Friday 13 September! What a perfect way to kick off the yearly Oxford Preservation Trust’s Oxford Open Doors Weekend 14th and 15th September!
From 26 – 29 September Tiny Ideas Festivalhosts a 250th Anniversary market trail for the kiddies, then October 26th we’re honoured to play host a special free handwriting event with The Handwritten Letter Appreciation Society as part of this years IF Festival. Watch this space for more info. 4th November there’s a Covered Market Memory Lane special with Museum of Oxford where veryone is welcome to come to MOX and share a special memory of the market with other like-minded souls keen to chat and reminisce.
