Welcome to

OXFORD TWIN CITIES POSTCARD PROJECT

We’re so excited to announce The Handwritten Letter Appreciation Society will be coming to the market to run a special postcard writing event as part of our 250th Anniversary celebrations.

Meet by the Market post box – Saturday 26 October – 2pm – 6pm

Postcards provided

The Handwritten Letter Appreciation Society in conjunction with Oxford Science and Ideas Festival, and Oxford Twin Cities, will be hosting a special afternoon of postcard writing right in the heart of the Covered Market.

Nearly a year ago Dinah Johnson founder of the society, approached us to host a postcard writing event. With our 250th coming up we leapt at the chance to welcome them to the market and do our bit to help with Dinah’s mission to put handwritten letters back on the map.

It’s not to hold back the future, it’s just The Handwritten Letter Appreciation Society is a way to bring together people who love to write and receive handwritten letters, and to stop them from becoming a lost art. The hope is that handwritten letters will go on forever and ever. And if the Society encourages just one person to write a letter to a friend or relative or someone famous, it will be a triumph!” Dinah Johnson

The colour postcard was designed by Axel Scheiffler especially for Dinah to celebrate this years World Postcard Day. Our very own Covered Market postbox was the actual muse for this drawing.

Come along to celebrate the Covered Market’s 250 year milestone by writing one of the exclusive ‘Covered Market across the years’s’ postcards specially created by The Handwritten Letter Appreciation Society. Postcards are free and sending them to our twin cities is free. Some stamps will be available on the day for you to purchase if you would like to send postcards to friends and family.

To find the postcard writing social head to the central postbox in the market and you’ll see the tables there ready to welcome you!

Tickets are on a pay what you can afford basis. Follow this link to book your tickets.
