Oxford Dogs has officially turned one! For owner Artur, opening this family-run hot dog stall in The Covered Market was a dream come true. One year on, we caught up with him to hear how it all began, what the first year has been like, and why the market has become such a special home.
How did the idea of creating Oxford Dogs come about?
A few years ago, I had a simple idea… What if I opened a small food stall in Oxford Covered Market? A place serving high-quality hot dogs that I could never find anywhere in Oxford since moving here, alongside a selection of premium snacks. It sounded simple on paper, but turning that idea into reality took a lot of hard work, determination, and countless hours of effort from both me and my wife. And in 2025, it finally happened.
What made you choose the Covered Market for your special new venture?
The Covered Market is one of the most welcoming places in Oxford for small family-run businesses, and that’s exactly the kind of business I run.
I also love the incredible history of the market, the atmosphere, and being surrounded by local independent traders.
Ever since I arrived in Oxford in 2016, this place has held a special place in my heart.
I always dreamed of becoming part of this community, so opening Oxford Dogs here was a dream come true.
What have you enjoyed most about being in the market since you started?
Without a doubt, the support and kindness from the other traders. From day one, I’ve been welcomed with smiles, encouragement, and friendly conversations.
Even now, that spirit continues every day. The Covered Market really is a special place, and being part of such a supportive community has been one of the most rewarding aspects of the journey. I would also add that the acceptance and support from our customers has meant a great deal to us. From the very beginning, the people who visited Oxford Dogs welcomed us warmly and supported us on our journey. Even when we had a few teething problems in the early days, they were patient, understanding, and continued to believe in what we were trying to build.
Many of those first customers are still with us today and have become part of our community. We are incredibly grateful for their loyalty and support, and in return we do our very best to provide them with delicious, high-quality food made from premium ingredients at a great price every single day.
How does it feel now it’s been up and running for a year now?
Today, Oxford Dogs is proudly serving what many people call the best sausages and hot dogs in the city! 🌭🔥 Seeing customers come back again and again, bringing their friends and family, and enjoying the food we’ve worked so hard to create makes every challenge worth it.
