September always feels like a month of change.
After the brightness and bustle of summer, the first autumn colours begin to appear and there’s a real sense of one season giving way to another. With the autumn equinox approaching and the fields around us being prepared for new growth, it feels like a lovely time to reconnect with nature.
So, for our September Trader Focus, who better to visit than the Covered Market’s resident crystal expert, Sarah-Jane from Crystal Spirit Emporium?
It’s an extra special month for Sarah-Jane too, as Crystal Spirit Emporium celebrates three years in the Market. We caught up with her to talk changing seasons, September’s birthstone and the crystals she recommends for embracing autumn.
What’s your favourite thing about September?
“After the long hot summer, September brings the beautiful autumn leaves and cosy evenings with a blanket and hot chocolate. In the Covered Market I’m looking forward to my shop having all the Halloween decorations up and a few new items to purchase especially for the people that love Halloween.”
What is the birth stone for September?
“September’s birthstone is Sapphire, although Lapis Lazuli, peridot, carnelian and kyanite are alternative & astrological crystals associated with September. Sapphire is a beautiful gemstone which we sometimes sell in raw form and not gemstone quality.
Sapphire is said to enhance mental clarity, enhance communication and intuition.”
What should customers try this month to fully embrace the onset of Autumn?
“Crystals to try in the autumn months include:
Carnelian which brings warmth and boosts energy. Citrine reflects the golden glow of autumn harvest which brings joy, positivity and abundance. Sunstone is a joyful solar crystal that clears away seasons depression. It’s said to restore a sense of light, optimism and enthusiasm.
Autumn equinox comes late September so it’s time to swap those high vibration summer crystals for earthy stabilising crystals. These include Labradorite for transformation Red Jasper and Agate for deep physical grounding and comfort.”

“We’re about to get in an incredible large Moss Agate freeform that’s on a stand that turns to show all it’s amazing beauty. Definitely a show stopper! A new selection of fossils are also coming soon, which is always very exciting.
